1. Cream the lard and sugar and add the vanilla essence, then add the dry ingredients and mix well.
2. Make into walnut sized pieces, rolling gently in your hand and place on a greased baking sheet.
3. Place in the oven at 180c and cook until golden brown (approximately 15 to 20 minutes).
4. Place a chocolate button on each biscuit as soon as you take them out of oven. Leave to cool on cooling rack.
